CLEVELAND — Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James publicly congratulated Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett on Sunday after the defensive end broke the NFL’s single-season sack record.

Garrett logged his 23rd sack of the year when he brought down Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow in the fourth quarter at Paycor Stadium on Jan. 4, 2026. The play moved the former No. 1 overall pick past Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt, who previously shared the mark at 22.5 sacks.

Moments after the record-setting takedown, James posted on social media: “CONGRATULATIONS MY GOOD BROTHER!!!!!!! @Flash_Garrett,” tagging Garrett’s account from his @KingJames handle.

James, a longtime Browns supporter, has formed a close relationship with Garrett. The two spoke last offseason when Garrett briefly considered requesting a trade before deciding to remain in Cleveland. Although the Browns will not reach the postseason, the 28-year-old defensive end now owns the league’s top single-season pass-rush milestone while still wearing a Browns jersey.

James, who set the NBA career scoring record last year, is no stranger to historic achievements. Earlier this week, he drew a football parallel on the court, describing a full-court outlet pass to Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic as a quarterback-to-receiver connection. “One of the best quarterbacks and I’m a pretty good receiver,” James said, adding that he learned from former NFL star Randy Moss to keep his hands down until the last moment to shield the play from defenders.
