Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James drew a cross-sport parallel between Los Angeles Dodgers two-way standout Shohei Ohtani and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry during a recent episode of the “Mind the Game” podcast.

James explained that a group chat with friends highlighted Ohtani’s rare skill set. “If I send a message saying a guy struck out 10 batters in the NLCS, you’d say that pitcher had a great game,” he recounted. “If I send another message saying someone hit three home runs in that same game, you wouldn’t think it was the same person. Ohtani did both.”

The four-time NBA champion said Curry shares a similar ability to dominate in multiple ways. “What makes Steph so dangerous is you get it in so many different ways—semi-transition pull-ups, high pick-and-roll threes, or moving without the ball,” James noted.

Ohtani, who captured his second World Series title and a fourth MVP award on Oct. 28, 2025, remains at the peak of his career, while James enters the latter stages of his own. Magic Johnson has also likened Ohtani to the late Kobe Bryant, underscoring the two-way ace’s stature across professional sports.

Meanwhile, the Lakers opened the season 10-4 during James’ brief absence. Upon returning, he said he was “impressed” by the team’s start and unconcerned about his fit after helping secure a win in his first game back.
