INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James reiterated during NBA All-Star Weekend that he has not determined whether he will continue his career beyond the 2025-26 season, his 23rd in the league.
Speaking to reporters on Feb. 15 at the Intuit Dome prior to the 75th All-Star Game, the 41-year-old said his plans remain open as his current contract expires this summer.
“When I know, you guys will know,” James said. “I don’t know. I have no idea. I just want to live. That’s all.”
Focus on Family After Retirement
James added that whenever he does retire, he intends to spend significant time creating “great vibes” with loved ones.
“What I want to do at 45, 50 and 55 will be a lot of creating great vibes and fun with my family and my friends,” he explained. “That’s one of my passions, to create memories that will last forever.”
Pursuit of Fifth Title Remains Priority
For now, James said his attention is on the Lakers’ postseason push. Los Angeles sits fifth in the Western Conference as the regular season enters its stretch run.
Ownership Interest Still Possible
Asked if he still hopes to own an NBA franchise after his playing days, James was noncommittal.
“There’s a lot of things that I have on the table that I could tap into if I want to, that being one of them,” he noted. “There’s other ventures as well that I’ll continue to explore and then see what will engage me and motivate me post-career.”
James said any decision about his future will come during the offseason.
