Los Angeles, CA — Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant believes LeBron James remains on an upward trajectory even in his 23rd NBA season.

During an appearance on the “Unguarded” podcast hosted by Fred VanVleet, Durant said the 40-year-old Los Angeles Lakers star has continued to expand his repertoire, noting improved three-point accuracy and a more polished post game.

“I feel like LeBron is still getting better,” Durant told VanVleet. “He recently mastered his game at like 38. He added a three-pointer, he added a fadeaway, more consistent.”

Sharpened Shooting Touch

James shot 41 percent from beyond the arc in 2024, the best mark of his career, and followed with 37.6 percent last season—his fourth-highest rate. The outside improvement has helped offset a natural decline in explosiveness while allowing him to remain a Second Team All-NBA selection at age 40.

Expanded Post Arsenal

Durant also pointed to James’ work on the block, where the veteran now mixes fadeaways and hook shots with the power moves that defined his earlier years.

Scoring Record Viewed as Untouchable

With James already the league’s all-time scoring leader, Los Angeles Clippers guard James Harden recently said he does not expect anyone to surpass the record the Lakers forward continues to extend.

James is the first player to reach a 23rd NBA season while maintaining All-NBA production, a longevity Durant attributes to constant refinement. “I think he’s on his way to truly mastering who he wants to be,” Durant said.
