Lakers’ Redick Sees ‘Positive’ Response After Candid Practice, Film Review

LOS ANGELES — After three consecutive blowout defeats, including a Christmas Day loss to the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick said Saturday’s practice and film session had to be “uncomfortable.” By day’s end, he reported a constructive turnaround.
“Recalibration and reconnection” were the themes, Redick told reporters, noting that both coaches and players met early to address effort and execution. “It was very positive,” he said. “It was also listening — for our staff and myself to listen to the players and what they need.”
The first-year head coach emphasized that frank discussion was necessary. “The truth is uncomfortable. You have to put everything out there,” Redick said. He added that the group left the session clear on expectations: “There wasn’t anything that needed to be addressed that wasn’t addressed.”
Redick outlined three priorities moving forward:
- Defensive fundamentals
- Role clarity
- Offensive organization
“Since we’ve gotten Bron back, we haven’t been as organized offensively — too many random possessions. So that’s on me,” he acknowledged.
The Lakers (record unavailable) host the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night, giving the team a quick opportunity to apply the adjustments.
Asked about the club’s overall atmosphere, Redick conceded the culture “isn’t where it should be,” despite a strong start to the season. “It can change like that,” he said.
