Lakers Coach JJ Redick likens LeBron James’ enduring excellence to Bruce Springsteen

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick drew a musical parallel before Tuesday’s matchup with the Denver Nuggets, saying superstar forward LeBron James reminds him of rock legend Bruce Springsteen because of their shared longevity and consistent greatness.
“I’m a big Bruce Springsteen fan,” Redick told Spectrum SportsNet. “You see the evolution of him as a singer-songwriter, and then he comes out with the greatest hits. LeBron’s greatest hits—he just keeps adding to them. He just plays and plays and plays, and he’s got a hell of a catalogue.”
New milestone against Denver
The comparison came hours before James, 41, passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leader in made field goals. The record fell in the first quarter when James hit a patented turnaround jumper, a shot he has refined late in his career.
Now in Year 23, James continues to anchor a Lakers team firmly in the Western Conference playoff race. He missed the opening weeks of the 2025-26 season but returned gradually and appears set for the stretch run.
Playing deep into his 40s?
Although James has acknowledged that retirement is approaching, his current level of play suggests he could remain effective well into his 40s. Redick noted that the four-time MVP has never experienced a significant dip, consistently finding ways to influence winning.
Admiration beyond basketball
James’ sustained success has inspired figures outside sports as well. Actor Timothée Chalamet recently told a live taping of the “Mind the Game” podcast that he looks to the Lakers star’s career for motivation.
For now, Los Angeles will continue to rely on James’ expanding “greatest hits” as the postseason approaches.
