Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum reaffirmed his admiration for Kobe Bryant while discussing the NBA’s greatest players during a recent appearance on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast.
Tatum told hosts Gillie Da King and Wallo267 that any top-five list excluding Michael Jordan, LeBron James or Bryant instantly loses credibility in his eyes. “I really have a hard time listening to them,” he said, adding that the trio is “already cemented” among basketball’s all-time elite.
The 26-year-old All-Star allowed for flexibility in the remaining two spots, mentioning Shaquille O’Neal as a possible addition. Still, he maintained that Jordan, James and Bryant are “non-negotiables” when debating the greatest to ever play the game.
Tatum’s stance highlights his longstanding respect for Bryant. The Celtics star, who has publicly shared his admiration for the late Los Angeles Lakers legend, commemorated Bryant by tattooing the Kobe Bryant All-Star Game MVP trophy on his leg after winning the award in 2023.
Tatum’s comments continue to fuel the perennial GOAT debate, leaving out other iconic names such as Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Larry Bird. Nonetheless, he stood firm in elevating Bryant, James and Jordan based on their championships, records and influence on the sport.
