Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent believes his game clicks into place whenever forward Jarred Vanderbilt shares the floor with him.
Speaking after the Lakers’ preseason loss to the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 5, 2025, at Chase Center, Vincent told Spectrum SportsNet that Vanderbilt’s energy and smarts make a noticeable difference.
“I get way more comfortable when he’s on the floor, especially when I’m on the floor with him,” Vincent said. “Just knowing the competitive edge he’s bringing, the defensive intensity. He has a high IQ on the offensive side as well.”
Vanderbilt missed the opening stretch of the 2024-25 campaign after procedures on both feet but entered this preseason healthy. Through two exhibition games, he has flashed the mobility that defined his play before the injuries. Vincent, who dealt with a knee issue two seasons ago, noted how important a healthy offseason can be.
“You actually get to work on your game instead of just working on your body,” he said. “It gives you a lot of confidence when you have confidence in how you move.”
Both players are expected to hold key reserve roles in 2025-26: Vincent as the backup point guard and Vanderbilt as an all-purpose defender. Their availability could be critical for a roster aiming to stay deep in a competitive Western Conference.
Vincent also welcomed head coach JJ Redick’s demanding approach to training camp, saying the heightened standards are designed to put the club in “championship shape.”
