Draymond Green Hopes LeBron James Returns Soon After Sciatica Flare-Up

San Francisco, CA — Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green offered public well-wishes to LeBron James after the Los Angeles Lakers star missed Tuesday’s season opener with sciatica.

James was held out of the 10-point loss at Chase Center because of nerve pain that flared up shortly before tip-off. The four-time MVP rarely misses games, and his absence ended a run of highly anticipated matchups between the longtime rivals.

“It’s always different when he’s not out there,” Green told reporters postgame. “We’ve had so many battles over the years. He doesn’t miss many games, let alone a season opener, so it was odd seeing him in street clothes.”

Green, who has dealt with sciatica in the past, described the condition as relentless. “You can be standing there talking to someone and pain just shoots down your leg,” he said. “I don’t wish that on my worst enemy. I’m hoping he recovers quickly.”

The 39-year-old James has no formal timetable to return. Because sciatica affects a nerve root, flare-ups can be unpredictable, and recovery often depends on pain management rather than a set schedule.

Lakers’ third-quarter woes continue

Head coach JJ Redick pointed to another familiar issue after the defeat: Los Angeles was outscored 19-4 to start the third quarter. Redick said fixing those lapses “has to happen immediately” if the team hopes to contend in the Western Conference.

No date has been announced for the next Lakers-Warriors meeting, but both sides expect James to push for a return as soon as his symptoms subside.
