LOS ANGELES — Center Deandre Ayton acknowledged feeling “a lot of pressure” when several members of the World Series–winning Los Angeles Dodgers attended the Los Angeles Lakers’ 125-118 victory over the San Antonio Spurs at Crypto.com Arena on Nov. 5, 2025.
Dodgers stars Mookie Betts and Will Smith were among the players introduced and honored on the court, adding an extra layer of excitement to a matchup that already featured Ayton guarding Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama.
Ayton delivers under the spotlight
Ayton finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, registering his third consecutive double-double in games he has completed. Working in tandem with the Lakers’ defense, he limited Wembanyama to 19 points and eight rebounds before the 7-4 forward fouled out late in the fourth quarter.
“Seeing the champions walk in put a lot of pressure on me,” Ayton said after the game. “The crowd was into it, so we wanted to put on a show and send everyone home happy.”
Strong start despite injuries
The Lakers improved to 7-2 despite the absence of LeBron James, who has yet to make his season debut, and multiple missed games from guards Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Ayton credited team chemistry for the early success, noting his growing on-court connection with both backcourt stars.
Los Angeles will continue its homestand Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers.
