LOS ANGELES — Adou Thiero rejoined the Los Angeles Lakers lineup Tuesday night, appearing for the first time since Dec. 30 after recovering from a right MCL sprain. The rookie forward logged just under 10 minutes in a 109-86 loss to the San Antonio Spurs at Crypto.com Arena, finishing with three points, one block and an alley-oop dunk off a Bronny James assist.
“Just going in every day and getting one percent better,” Thiero said of his rehab. “It feels good and back to normal now.”
The 21-year-old relied on conditioning work and “stay-ready” scrimmages before receiving medical clearance. While sidelined, he said watching from the bench proved useful. “Gaining a little bit of experience from everything, being able to learn from the guys that are on the floor right now, that was very beneficial,” he noted.
Thiero, valued by the coaching staff for his speed and athleticism on the perimeter, acknowledged he had already tested his knee with several dunks during five-on-five sessions. Tuesday’s lob finish, converted while drawing a foul, marked his first in-game bucket since the injury. “It always feels good to leave the game without a donut,” he added.
The Lakers have dealt with injuries throughout the roster and are seeking additional defensive quickness. Head coach JJ Redick has not indicated how Thiero will fit into the rotation, but the rookie hopes sustained health will lead to more opportunities.
In other injury news, guard Austin Reaves — recently back from a calf strain — appears on the latest cover of SLAM Magazine, where he discusses his path to a breakout season.
