The Los Angeles Lakers announced Tuesday that forward Maxi Kleber will be available to play against the New Orleans Pelicans despite lingering back soreness.
The 34-year-old was not included on Monday’s injury report but was downgraded to questionable earlier in the day after feeling discomfort, head coach JJ Redick told reporters during his pregame media session. Redick added that Kleber intended to test the back in warm-ups before making a final decision.
Kleber has rotated in and out of the lineup this season but contributed in the club’s recent victories over the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings. His status cleared, coaching staff will determine in-game whether to extend his minutes or manage the ailment conservatively.
Staying Ready
Following Sunday’s win in Sacramento, Kleber described how he maintains readiness without a fixed spot in the rotation. “I just always focus on staying ready,” he said, emphasizing communication on defense and screening on offense to create openings for teammates.
Frontcourt Options
If Kleber’s workload is limited, centers Deandre Ayton and Jaxson Hayes are expected to absorb additional minutes, while forward Jarred Vanderbilt could rejoin the rotation.
Redick’s Endorsement
Redick recently praised Kleber’s professionalism and impact off the bench. “His teammates love him. He’s a terrific teammate… He just plays winning basketball, very unselfish and selfless,” the coach said.
