Lakers List Austin Reaves as Questionable for Sunday Showdown with Knicks

The Los Angeles Lakers have designated guard Austin Reaves as questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden because of a left calf strain, the club announced Saturday.

Reaves has not appeared since Dec. 25, when he aggravated the calf for the second time this season. The organization continues to tread carefully with the 26-year-old to avoid a more serious setback, such as an Achilles injury.

Sunday marks the second consecutive contest in which Reaves carries a questionable tag. He held the same status before Friday’s meeting with the Washington Wizards but was ultimately ruled out. Head coach JJ Redick said prior to that game that Reaves remains ahead of schedule and has experienced no setbacks, yet the medical staff is unwilling to clear him until he is fully ready.

The latest injury report also lists Bronny James (left leg soreness) as questionable, while Adou Thiero (right MCL sprain) continues to be sidelined.

Los Angeles managed a comfortable win over Washington without Reaves, but his return would bolster the lineup for a high-profile matchup in New York.

Record Ticket Prices for Madison Square Garden

Interest in Sunday’s contest is soaring, with ticket-tracking services labeling it the most expensive regular-season NBA game since Kobe Bryant’s 2016 finale. Factors include the potential return of Reaves and what could be LeBron James’s final appearance at the Garden. James has not indicated a retirement date but has emphasized savoring each road venue this season, frequently citing Madison Square Garden as one of his favorite stages.

Tip-off between the Lakers (playing their 42nd game of the season) and the Knicks is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
