The Los Angeles Lakers expect Luka Doncic to be back in uniform shortly, head coach JJ Redick said Wednesday before the matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Doncic remains day-to-day after suffering a left finger sprain and lower left leg contusion in the team’s Oct. 15 win over Minnesota. The All-Star guard was originally slated for a one-week re-evaluation.

“With a contusion, it’s a day-to-day thing,” Redick told reporters. “The swelling has gone down a little bit. His finger looks like he has one-and-a-half fingers now, and not two. He’s progressing, and we’re hopeful that in the next couple of games we’ll have an opportunity to have him back in the lineup.”

Doncic did not accompany the club on its current road trip, making it likely he will miss Friday’s contest against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Lakers return to Crypto.com Arena on Sunday to host the Miami Heat, a game that could mark the 26-year-old’s return.

Los Angeles has won two of three since Doncic’s injury, with guard Austin Reaves helping steady the lineup while both Doncic and LeBron James remain sidelined.

Entering his first full season with the Lakers, Doncic arrived at training camp noticeably leaner after an extensive offseason conditioning program. In a recent interview with former Dallas teammate Dirk Nowitzki, he said the body transformation began during last season’s Finals run, adding, “I felt like I was missing a little bit… I’m 26 years old and I’ve got a long way ahead of me.”
