The Los Angeles Lakers will be without LeBron James when they face the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, but Gabe Vincent is set to make his first appearance in nearly a month.
The team announced that James is sidelined with left foot joint arthritis and right sciatica. He was originally listed as questionable earlier in the day. The 39-year-old forward logged 30 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in Tuesday’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans, the front end of a back-to-back set.
Vincent, who has been out for nine games because of a lumbar back strain, is available to return. Before the injury, head coach JJ Redick frequently used the guard as a key reserve. How many minutes Vincent plays in his first game back has not been specified.
The Lakers remain shorthanded elsewhere. Austin Reaves (left calf strain), Rui Hachimura (right calf strain) and Adou Thiero (right MCL sprain) are still unavailable.
Wednesday’s matchup is the first meeting between the clubs since San Antonio eliminated Los Angeles in the Emirates NBA Cup quarterfinals. The Spurs are expected to have rookie center Victor Wembanyama in the lineup after he returned to action Tuesday.
