The Los Angeles Lakers have placed Luka Doncic (left finger sprain) and Jaxson Hayes (left knee soreness) on the injury report as questionable for Sunday’s road game against the Sacramento Kings.
LeBron James (right sciatica), Adou Thiero (left knee surgery recovery) and Maxi Kleber (abdominal strain) remain out. According to the team, James is not expected to play until at least mid-November.
Doncic jammed the finger early in Friday’s 119-114 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves but finished the night with 49 points while wearing a splint, helping the Lakers secure their first win of the season. Through two games, the guard is averaging 46.0 points.
Sunday’s contest opens the club’s first back-to-back set of the year; Los Angeles returns home Monday to face the Portland Trail Blazers. Doncic’s availability for both games remains uncertain.
Hayes was a late scratch against Minnesota, forcing head coach Darvin Ham to use smaller lineups that featured Jarred Vanderbilt at center for stretches. The Lakers have generally exercised caution with injuries early in the schedule.
Historic start for Doncic
By scoring at least 40 points in each of his first two outings, Doncic became the first player in franchise history—and only the fourth in NBA history—to open a season with back-to-back 40-point performances. His 92 combined points are the third-highest total ever through two games. After Friday’s win, Doncic said he feels physically strong and emphasized his desire to “win every game.”
