The Los Angeles Lakers extended their winning streak to seven games on Wednesday, defeating the Houston Rockets 124-116 at Toyota Center and improving to 44-25. The victory, their second in Houston in three days, secured the season series and positioned Los Angeles in sole possession of the Western Conference’s No. 3 seed.
Luka Doncic led the charge with 40 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists, shooting 12-for-25 from the field and delivering clutch baskets and lobs in the closing minutes. LeBron James added 30 points on 13-of-14 shooting, collecting five rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block. His lone miss appeared to come after contact that went unwhistled. The 39-year-old forward punctuated the first half with a soaring alley-oop from Marcus Smart, one of several high-flying dunks on the night.
Los Angeles also received efficient production from Deandre Ayton, who scored 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting and grabbed four rebounds. Austin Reaves contributed 14 points, three rebounds and eight assists, coming alive late after a quiet opening half.
Collectively, the Lakers shot 61 percent from the floor and 47 percent from three-point range but converted just 17 of 27 free throws (63 percent). Houston stayed close into the fourth quarter, yet Los Angeles’ balanced offense and late execution preserved the win.
