The Los Angeles Lakers ruled out point guard Gabe Vincent for the remainder of Sunday night’s matchup with the Sacramento Kings after he suffered a left ankle sprain early in the third quarter at Golden 1 Center.
Vincent rolled the ankle while pursuing a Kings player and appeared to step on teammate Deandre Ayton’s foot. He headed straight to the locker room and did not return.
The injury adds to an already depleted Lakers roster. Luka Doncic is expected to miss at least a week with a left finger sprain and a lower left leg contusion, while LeBron James also remains out. Vincent had been inserted into the starting lineup to compensate for the absences, providing ball-handling, perimeter defense and outside shooting.
Los Angeles returns to action Monday night at Crypto.com Arena against the Portland Trail Blazers, the second game of a back-to-back set. With the quick turnaround, Vincent’s availability is uncertain, and the Lakers may have to rely heavily on their bench.
Before the season, Vincent expressed full commitment to the organization. “I’m all in on Laker basketball. I’m all in on this team,” he said prior to the opener against the Golden State Warriors. “They’ll get everything I have to offer.”
