Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has traveled to Spain for a specialized injection designed to speed the healing of his Grade 2 left hamstring strain, league sources told ESPN’s “NBA Today.”
Insider Shams Charania reported that Doncic, sidelined since he was hurt against the Oklahoma City Thunder, is undergoing the procedure in an effort to shorten the typical four-to-six-week recovery window. The 26-year-old star was previously ruled out for the remainder of the regular season.
“He’s doing everything he can to see if he can push that timeline up just a little bit,” Charania said, noting that the effectiveness of the treatment has not yet been determined.
The Lakers also expect guard Austin Reaves to remain out indefinitely with his own injury issues, leaving LeBron James to anchor a shorthanded roster as the postseason approaches. The NBA playoffs start in fewer than two weeks, and current projections have Doncic missing most—if not all—of the opening round.
Doncic was playing at an MVP level before the setback, averaging 34.5 points, 9.2 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game. His absence, combined with Reaves’ injury, complicates Los Angeles’ efforts to advance deep enough for either player to return.
