The Los Angeles Lakers have selected longtime NBA performance specialist Jeremy Holsopple to lead their strength and conditioning department, league insider Marc Stein reported on August 11, 2025.
Holsopple spent 11 seasons with the Dallas Mavericks (2013-24), serving as athletic performance director and earning the NBA’s Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year award in March 2021. His tenure in Dallas included extensive work with current Lakers guard Luka Doncic.
The Mavericks dismissed Holsopple shortly after their NBA Finals exit in 2024. Months later, Dallas traded Doncic to Los Angeles, citing concerns about the star’s long-term conditioning and work habits. Lakers president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka praised Doncic’s support team when the player signed a contract extension earlier this offseason.
Holsopple’s arrival reunites him with Doncic and bolsters the Lakers’ ongoing emphasis on player development and injury prevention under the NBA’s tightening collective bargaining rules. The move is the latest step by the organization to make its new franchise cornerstone feel at home; Doncic recently thanked team governor Jeanie Buss, co-owner Mark Walter, head coach JJ Redick and Pelinka “for welcoming me with open arms.”
The Lakers have not yet announced when Holsopple will begin his duties, but the hire positions the club to focus on maintaining player health as training camp approaches.
