The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard Jarron Cumberland and waived forward Arthur Kaluma, the organization announced. Contract terms were not revealed, though the deal is expected to be an Exhibit 10 agreement that allows the club to evaluate Cumberland during training camp and preseason.
An Exhibit 10 contract can be converted into a G League assignment if the player is released and remains unsigned elsewhere, positioning Cumberland to join the South Bay Lakers for the 2025-26 season. Los Angeles also maintains an open two-way roster slot that the 6-foot-5 guard can pursue over the coming weeks.
Veteran scorer earns another look
Cumberland, 28, went undrafted out of Cincinnati in 2021 and has since spent time with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Raptors 905 and Delaware Blue Coats in the NBA G League. He appeared in three NBA games on a 10-day contract with the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2021-22 campaign, recording two points and three rebounds.
Across 68 G League contests (45 starts), Cumberland owns averages of 12.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 38.1 percent from three-point range. Last season with Delaware he posted career highs of 19.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 25 games and connected on 46.1 percent of his attempts beyond the arc.
Kaluma waived before camp
Kaluma, an undrafted forward from Texas who contributed in limited minutes for the Lakers’ Summer League squad, was released ahead of training camp. He will become an unrestricted free agent if he clears waivers.
Redick still weighing starting lineup
Head coach JJ Redick, speaking at his preseason press conference, said he has not finalized the team’s Opening Night starters. “We certainly have a number of players—let’s call it seven or eight—that are starter-level players in the NBA,” Redick noted, adding that he plans to experiment with combinations during the preseason.
The Lakers open training camp next week.
