LOS ANGELES — The NBA has suspended Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schroder for three games after he confronted and attempted to strike Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic roughly 40 minutes following a Dec. 28 contest at Crypto.com Arena, the league announced Friday.
Los Angeles defeated Sacramento 125-101 that night. Schroder came off the bench for 19 minutes, posting 11 points, two rebounds and seven assists, while Doncic led the Lakers with 34 points, five rebounds and seven assists.
According to TNT and NBA TV reporter Chris Haynes, Schroder sought out Doncic in the arena hallway after the game. The target of the confrontation was later confirmed by Dan Woike of The Athletic.
Video shared on social media showed the two guards exchanging words during the fourth quarter, with the verbal spat reportedly escalating into the postgame altercation. The league cited Schroder for “confronting and attempting to strike” another player.
The 32-year-old guard will begin serving the suspension Saturday. He will miss upcoming matchups against the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers and the Kings’ home game Monday versus the Lakers. Schroder can return Jan. 17, barring a successful appeal.
Doncic, 26, enters the rematch in Sacramento looking to rebound from a rough outing in Friday’s loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, in which he scored 24 points on 8-for-25 shooting, added nine rebounds and nine assists, and fouled out in the final minute.
