Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick praised guard Gabe Vincent for what he called a “fantastic” showing through the first five games of the 2025-26 preseason.
Vincent, 29, has appeared in three of those contests and is averaging 17.0 points while shooting 50% from three-point range (11-for-22). His latest outing, on Oct. 15, 2025, in Las Vegas produced a game-high 22 points against the Dallas Mavericks at T-Mobile Arena.
Redick Impressed by On-Ball Work
“He’s been fantastic, really as an on-ball guy,” Redick said after practice. “He’s created advantages for us. His movement in early offense and in the half-court has been really good. I think he’s pushing himself to get in fantastic shape and sustain that.”
Final Year of Three-Year Deal
The Lakers signed Vincent away from the Miami Heat in 2023 on a three-year contract following Miami’s run to the NBA Finals. Injuries sidelined him for most of the 2023-24 campaign, and his production was inconsistent in 2024-25. Entering the last year of his deal, Vincent’s two-way impact is viewed as critical for a roster short on two-way depth.
Larger Role With Key Stars Resting
With LeBron James expected to miss the start of the regular season and limited preseason minutes for Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, Vincent has handled more ball-handling duties. “It’s been a unique situation where I’ve been able to showcase more of my skill set,” Vincent said. “When we’re whole, I’m not going to be running the one as frequently. But when I’m on the ball, I want to be aggressive and help us win.”
Vincent’s preseason surge offers Los Angeles its first extended glimpse of the player the front office envisioned two summers ago.
