The Los Angeles Lakers marked multiple milestones on Tuesday night, April 1, 2026, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers at Crypto.com Arena to move to 50-26. The victory was head coach JJ Redick’s 100th since taking over the team last season.

General manager Rob Pelinka paused the post-game celebrations for a brief tribute, playing recorded congratulations from Redick’s sons over the arena video boards. The win makes Redick the 12th coach in franchise history to collect 100 victories and the first since Phil Jackson in 2010 and 2011 to guide the Lakers to consecutive 50-win campaigns. The previous coach to achieve that feat was Pat Riley.

Redick downplayed any comparison with the Hall of Fame coaches who preceded him. “I don’t deserve to be mentioned along with Phil or Pat,” he said. “I’ve got a lot left to accomplish, for sure.” He credited his roster and coaching staff for the accomplishment, calling them “resilient” and “resolved.”

The coach emphasized the group’s ability to handle unexpected obstacles over the past two seasons. “An 82-game season is going to present a lot of different challenges and problems,” he noted. “Our staff just keeps working to solve those problems, and our players do a great job of not letting go of the rope.”

Redick also reflected on his years as an NBA player, pointing out that even veteran teams struggle to reach the 50-win mark consistently. “It’s hard to win 50 games,” he said. “I know what it looks like to win in the regular season.”

The night’s milestone list extended beyond the bench. LeBron James recorded the 1,229th victory of his career—regular season and playoffs combined—surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most wins in league history.
