Los Angeles — James Worthy produced the last 30-point performance of his NBA career on April 6, 1994, lifting the Los Angeles Lakers to a 128-123 overtime victory against the Sacramento Kings at the Great Western Forum.
The veteran forward, then coming off the bench in his final season, logged a season-high 37 minutes and finished with 31 points, eight assists and six rebounds. It was his only game that year with at least 30 points.
Lakers contributions
Center Vlade Divac supported Worthy with 22 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. Forward Elden Campbell added 18 points, while guard Sedale Threatt supplied 17 points and eight assists.
Kings response
Sacramento stayed close behind 39 points from Mitch Richmond. Spud Webb added 32 points and 12 assists, but the Kings could not close out the contest in overtime.
Career context
Worthy, a key figure in the Lakers’ “Showtime” era and the 1988 NBA Finals MVP, was no longer a starter by 1994. His outburst against the Kings marked the final time he eclipsed the 30-point threshold before retiring at the end of the 1993-94 season.
The win improved Los Angeles’ record to 32-42, while Sacramento fell to 25-49.
