Los Angeles guard Gabe Vincent made his preseason debut Sunday night at Chase Center, posting 16 points and five assists in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 111-103 defeat to the Golden State Warriors.

After sitting out the preseason opener, Vincent was moved into the starting lineup with Luka Doncic, LeBron James and Austin Reaves all resting. The sixth-year guard connected on three shots from beyond the arc and looked comfortable initiating offense, a role he is expected to handle only sparingly once the roster is at full strength.

“It felt good to be back out there,” Vincent told Spectrum SportsNet. “I just wanted to compete, play the game I love and string some minutes together. It was our second preseason game, and we took a step forward. Now we’ll keep trying to grow.”

Vincent, 28, is coming off an injury-interrupted first season in Los Angeles but delivered several key performances last year. Head coach JJ Redick has emphasized conditioning throughout training camp, and Vincent said he welcomes the tough approach, noting that widespread fatigue from the drills would signal the team is getting into “championship shape.”

The veteran’s versatility on both ends of the floor is expected to keep him firmly in Redick’s rotation alongside the Lakers’ primary creators.
