Los Angeles Lakers guard Gabe Vincent said he is “all in on Laker basketball” as he enters the last season of the three-year, $33 million deal he signed in July 2023.
Speaking to The Athletic on the eve of tonight’s season opener against the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center, the 29-year-old guard emphasized his single-minded focus on helping the Lakers contend. “They’ll get everything I have to offer,” Vincent said. “I’ll be pouring everything into it because I’m trying to win.”
Key facts
Contract status: Third season with Los Angeles, unrestricted free agent in summer 2026.
Recent history: Missed almost the entire 2023-24 campaign with a knee injury. Returned in 2024-25, but the Lakers were eliminated in the first round after acquiring an injured Luka Doncic and finishing the year without a true starting center.
Opening Night role: Head coach JJ Redick named Vincent to the starting lineup in place of LeBron James, who is unavailable for the opener.
Redick’s endorsement
The first-year head coach praised Vincent’s work ethic and versatility, saying he wants “a team full of players like Gabe.” Redick’s confidence contributed to the guard’s elevation to the starting five.
Doncic connection
Doncic, acquired at last season’s trade deadline, welcomed Vincent’s presence on the floor after the preseason finale. “I always like playing with Gabe,” Doncic said. “His shooting helps me a lot—he hit four of five threes—and he brings defensive intensity, too.”
With a healthy roster and Vincent in a key role, the Lakers aim to re-establish themselves in the crowded Western Conference. For the veteran guard, consistent production could set up a lucrative payday in 2026, but he insisted the immediate goal is simple: win now.
