LJUBLJANA, Slovenia — Slovenia will meet Germany in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 quarterfinals on Wednesday, Aug. 13, with tipoff scheduled for 11 a.m. PT.
The matchup is a repeat of a July exhibition in which Germany defeated Slovenia 103-89. Germany’s roster features NBA guard Dennis Schroder, Orlando Magic forwards Franz Wagner and Tristan Da Silva, and former NBA players Daniel Theis and Isaac Bonga.
How the teams reached the last eight
Both nations advanced by winning their round-of-16 games over the weekend, the opening stage of the tournament’s knockout bracket:
- Slovenia 89, Italy 83: Luka Doncic scored 30 points in the first half and finished with 42 to push his team through. For the tournament, the 26-year-old is averaging 34.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.2 assists while shooting 46.2% from the field, 32.2% from three and 89.2% at the free-throw line on 18 attempts per game.
- Germany 85, Portugal 58: Germany cruised behind 20-point performances from Wagner (20.7 ppg in the event) and Schroder (20.2 ppg). Theis and Da Silva each contribute just over 10 points, giving the Germans four double-digit scorers.
Key questions for Wednesday
Germany’s defensive plan in the exhibition largely relied on single coverage of Doncic with occasional blitzes on ball screens. With no other Slovenian averaging double figures, Germany may look to increase pressure on the Dallas Mavericks star and force secondary scorers to decide the game.
The winner will face Finland or Georgia in the semifinals, keeping medal hopes alive heading into the tournament’s final weekend.
