Former Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard believes guard Dennis Schroder has assembled a résumé worthy of future consideration by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Howard posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sept. 16, 2025, writing, “Dennis Schroeder making a case for the Hall of fame,” after watching the German star capture MVP honors at FIBA EuroBasket 2025.
Schroder’s growing international résumé
The 31-year-old point guard led Germany to the EuroBasket title on Sept. 10 in Riga, Latvia, adding another major accomplishment to a list that already includes MVP of the 2023 FIBA World Cup. By earning both awards, Schroder became just the seventh player to claim MVP trophies at both tournaments, joining Sergei Belov, Drazen Dalipagic, Drazen Petrovic, Toni Kukoc, Dirk Nowitzki and Pau Gasol—all of whom are enshrined in Springfield.
Although Schroder has never been an NBA All-Star and finished second in Sixth Man of the Year voting in 2019-20, the Hall’s international committee evaluates achievements outside the NBA, strengthening his chances.
Howard and Schroder’s connection
Howard and Schroder were teammates with the Atlanta Hawks during the 2016-17 season but never shared the floor as Lakers. Howard, who finished his career overseas before being elected to the Hall, has closely followed Schroder’s success on the global stage.
EuroBasket All-Star Five announced
FIBA also named its EuroBasket 2025 All-Star Five: Schroder, Franz Wagner (Germany), Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece), Alperen Sengun (Turkey) and Luka Doncic (Slovenia). Schroder and Wagner won the tournament, defeating Sengun’s Turkey in the final, while Antetokounmpo secured bronze for Greece. Doncic guided Slovenia to the quarterfinals as the team’s lone NBA player.
With another MVP trophy in hand and public support from an inductee like Howard, Schroder’s case for Hall of Fame recognition continues to gain traction.
