The Los Angeles Lakers’ backcourt of Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves reached a historic milestone on Sunday, Dec. 1, when both players topped 30 points for the third consecutive contest in a 125-118 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

According to the NBA, the pair became only the fourth duo in the past 50 years to record at least 30 points apiece in three straight games, joining Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard (2023), Monta Ellis and Corey Maggette (2010), and George Gervin and Mike Mitchell (1984).

Doncic finished with 34 points, while Reaves added 33 to secure Los Angeles’ seventh win in a row. The Lakers improved to 15-4, a start that projects to a 65-win pace in the 2025-26 season.

Reaves’ Breakout Numbers

With LeBron James sidelined to open the year, Reaves has stepped into an All-Star-level role. Through 19 games, the guard is averaging 28.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 52.0% from the field and 36.1% beyond the arc.

Doncic on the Partnership

Asked why the pairing has clicked so quickly, Doncic offered a straightforward answer. “I think we’re just good basketball players,” he said. “I don’t know what makes us special, but I think we’re just good basketball players.”

Ayton Adjusting to Reaves in the Pick-and-Roll

Center Deandre Ayton credited Reaves for clear communication in pick-and-roll sets. “I’m in these pick-and-rolls with him, and the fire tends to go from orange to blue,” Ayton said. “You see the blue fire, don’t go near him—let him do his thing, and that’s what he did.”

Ayton added that understanding when to set a screen or clear space has been crucial to their developing chemistry, helping Reaves get to his preferred spots in the paint.

Los Angeles resumes its schedule later this week as Doncic and Reaves look to extend their 30-point streak and keep the Lakers among the NBA’s highest-scoring teams.
