NEW ORLEANS — Luka Doncic left Smoothie King Center astonished on Jan. 6 after watching 41-year-old LeBron James match his 30-point effort in the Los Angeles Lakers’ victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

“He’s been absolutely amazing,” Doncic said postgame, praising James for his efficiency and leadership. “We are playing better with each other, game by game. And this is just going to be improving more.”

The two superstars combined for several highlight plays, including an alley-oop from Doncic to James that brought the crowd to its feet. Their on-court chemistry was a preseason question, yet both now alternate seamlessly on and off the ball, creating matchup problems with shooting, passing and drives to the rim.

Head coach JJ Redick said he “loves” the growing synergy between his star duo, noting that the connection has tightened since James returned from an early-season absence. The Lakers expect further improvement once guard Austin Reaves rejoins the lineup.
