Riga, Latvia — Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic denounced the officiating crew following Slovenia’s 99-91 loss to Germany in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 quarterfinals on 10 September at Arena Riga.

Doncic poured in 39 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, but an early technical foul and late-game foul trouble left the 26-year-old frustrated. “I got a technical two minutes into the game for yelling ‘alo,’” Doncic told reporters through a translator, adding that quarterfinal officials should issue warnings before assessing such penalties.

The four-time NBA All-Star was forced to play cautiously during much of the fourth quarter after picking up additional fouls. Germany, featuring several NBA players and considered one of the tournament favorites, capitalized to advance to the semifinals.

Slovenia’s appearance in the last eight was unexpected. Doncic was the nation’s only NBA player, and several top EuroLeague contributors were unavailable after being denied clearance by their club teams. His individual effort carried the underdog squad through the group stage and a round-of-16 upset of Italy before Germany ended the run.

Following the defeat, Doncic expressed anger over the result but later posted on Instagram that he was proud of Slovenia’s performance.
