Doncic’s 37 points propel Slovenia past Israel 106-96 to close EuroBasket group stage

Katowice, Poland — September 4, 2025: Luka Doncic delivered a near triple-double as Slovenia defeated Israel 106-96 in the final Group D game of FIBA EuroBasket 2025 at Spodek Arena.

The victory gave Slovenia its third straight win after opening losses to Poland and France, securing a more favorable path in the round of 16. Both Slovenia and Israel had already clinched knockout berths before tip-off.

Dominant performance from the Lakers star

Doncic finished with 37 points on 12-of-21 shooting, 11 rebounds, nine assists and three steals. The Los Angeles Lakers guard poured in 24 points by halftime, helping Slovenia build a 55-42 lead. Foul trouble sidelined him early in the fourth quarter, allowing Israel to trim the margin to five, but his return sparked a closing surge capped by a step-back three-pointer that restored a 14-point gap with two minutes remaining.

Supporting cast steps up

Aleksej Nikolic added 16 points and seven assists, while center Alen Omic contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds. Slovenia shot 54.4 percent from the field and recorded 28 assists on 37 made baskets.

Avdija keeps Israel close

Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija led Israel with 34 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Despite the loss, Israel advances to the round of 16, which begins this weekend.

What’s next

Slovenia’s opponent in the first knockout round will be determined once group play concludes. The round-of-16 matchup is scheduled for this weekend.
