Dalton Knecht Shows Improved Form as Lakers Preseason Continues

Los Angeles Lakers guard Dalton Knecht believes he is finally regaining his footing after a difficult Summer League, saying he has his “legs underneath” him following the team’s latest preseason game.

The 24-year-old played 34 minutes off the bench on Oct. 5, 2025, in a 129-120 loss to the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center in San Francisco. Knecht finished with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and one block, shooting 3-for-11 from the field and 2-for-7 from three-point range.

“It felt good,” Knecht told Spectrum SportsNet after the game. “Just starting to get my legs underneath and then just keep going out there and hooping and be in my spots.”

Knecht’s steady showing offered a contrast to his rough Summer League, where he struggled so badly with his shot that it appeared he had regressed. Head coach JJ Redick recently explained that Knecht’s offseason workload—reportedly three workouts per day—left the second-year guard fatigued by mid-July.

The Lakers have four preseason games remaining, giving Knecht additional chances to solidify a rotation spot before the 2025-26 regular season opens. Although minutes may be scarce to start the year, Redick has noted the value of Knecht’s perimeter shooting and indicated the guard could be called upon as the season progresses.

Knecht said he plans to use his Summer League burnout as a lesson, aiming to balance his training better in future offseasons.
