Cam Reddish’s Roller-Coaster 2024-25 Season Ends With Lakers Waiver

Forward Cam Reddish experienced a turbulent 2024-25 campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers, moving from the end of the bench to the starting lineup before ultimately being released.
Early Season Opportunity
Reddish opened the year outside new head coach JJ Redick’s rotation. An early-season need for energy minutes, however, thrust him onto the floor, and his performance earned him eight starts. Over those starts, he averaged 4.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals, primarily serving as the Lakers’ top perimeter defender alongside Austin Reaves.
Role Shrinks Before Deadline Drama
Once Redick tightened his rotations, Reddish’s minutes declined and he again became a reserve. On the day of the trade deadline, Los Angeles dealt Reddish and rookie Dalton Knecht to the Charlotte Hornets for center Mark Williams. The deal was later voided, forcing both players back to the Lakers in an awkward return. Reddish remained professional and stayed out of the rotation the rest of the season.
Waived for Roster Flexibility
Needing a roster spot to convert Jordan Goodwin’s two-way contract into a standard NBA deal, the Lakers waived Reddish on March 27. He finished the season with 33 appearances, averaging 3.2 points and 2.0 rebounds while shooting 40.4 % from the field.
Season Highlight
Reddish’s standout night came in Memphis early in the schedule, when he posted a season-best 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals on 5-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-2 from three-point range. The performance led Redick to insert him into the starting lineup for the following game.
Uncertain Future
Having now been released by his fourth NBA franchise, the former top-five draft pick remains a free agent. League observers expect him to seek a training-camp invitation, with potential detours through the G League or overseas play as he attempts to re-establish himself for the 2025-26 season.
