Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham has revealed his dream lineup, and three icons from the Los Angeles Lakers franchise made the list.
Speaking with Fanatics in an interview shared by Legion Hoops on Nov. 24, 2025, the No. 1 overall pick in 2021 selected Stephen Curry, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal as his all-time starting five.
Cunningham said he favors the group because each player permanently reshaped the sport. Curry’s long-range shooting altered offensive strategy league-wide, and Jordan’s six championships with the Chicago Bulls remain a benchmark for greatness. Bryant’s relentless approach and scoring mastery earned him five rings, while James continues to accumulate records in his 23rd NBA season. O’Neal, a four-time champion, overpowered opponents in the paint and won three consecutive titles alongside Bryant in Los Angeles.
The Lakers’ heavy presence in Cunningham’s lineup underscores the franchise’s deep history. Bryant, James and O’Neal account for 12 of the organization’s 17 championships.
Los Angeles is currently attempting to launch a new era expected to feature Luka Dončić as the centerpiece, though James remains on the roster and is widely believed to have at least one more season ahead. During the recent offseason, general manager Rob Pelinka acquired Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart and Jake LaRavia. While the moves were not considered blockbuster additions, James has expressed satisfaction with what the trio has contributed early in the year.
