Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard Bronny James debuted his first personal Nike logo on Tuesday night while the team faced the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
The appearance served as a dual homecoming for the 19-year-old and his father, LeBron James, with both players born in nearby Akron. Despite the family reunion, the Lakers suffered a lopsided defeat to the Cavaliers.
James, however, produced his strongest NBA outing during late-game minutes, connecting on all three shot attempts. He finished with eight points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal that led to a breakaway dunk. His perfect shooting included a pair of three-pointers.
The guard’s customized Nike LeBron Witness 9 PE featured a newly created logo that incorporates his jersey No. 9 as the interior of a lowercase “b.” The branding marks his first individual identifier with the company, though no signature shoe has been announced.
While still outside head coach JJ Redick’s regular rotation, James continues to log meaningful time with the South Bay Lakers in the G League. Through three appearances there, he is averaging 17.0 points, 5.7 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 62.5 percent from the field and 42.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Postgame conversation also touched on LeBron James’ future. The four-time MVP told reporters he has not yet considered retirement or plans for a farewell tour.
