The Los Angeles Lakers have officially parted ways with guard Shake Milton, waiving the seven-year veteran before his 2025-26 contract became guaranteed.
Milton, 28, joined Los Angeles on Dec. —, 2024, in a trade that also brought forward Dorian Finney-Smith from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for D’Angelo Russell, rookie Maxwell Lewis and three second-round draft picks. While Finney-Smith immediately filled a defensive role, Milton arrived as a low-risk scoring option off the bench.
Head coach JJ Redick kept his guard rotation tight, limiting Milton to 30 regular-season appearances and one start. The 6-5 SMU product averaged 3.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 43.3 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from three-point range.
Milton’s standout performance in purple and gold came on Jan. 30, 2025, against the Washington Wizards, when he scored 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting, adding four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Needing roster flexibility and salary-cap space, the Lakers released Milton after failing to find a trade partner. Within days, the guard signed with Serbian club KK Partizan, securing the next step in his professional career.
