Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said he will wait until after the 2025-26 campaign to address a new deal, choosing not to negotiate during the season despite having only one year left on his two-year, $35 million contract.

“I don’t anticipate any negotiation during the season,” Kerr told reporters. “I’m not the slightest bit concerned about it. I just think it makes perfect sense for all of us to wait.”

Entering 12th Year on the Warriors’ Bench

The 59-year-old coach begins his 12th season with Golden State after guiding the club to four NBA championships and earning the league’s Coach of the Year award in 2016. Since taking over in May 2014, Kerr has compiled a 567-308 (.648) regular-season record and a 104-48 (.684) postseason mark, with six trips to the NBA Finals and only three missed playoff appearances.

Commitment Remains Strong

Kerr said his motivation to pursue additional titles has not waned. “I love my job. I love what I’m doing every day. Hopefully, I’m here for another few years,” he noted, adding that it “makes sense for the organization and for me” to evaluate the situation when the season ends.

Roster and Contract Landscape

According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Warriors veterans Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green each have two seasons remaining on their contracts. Both Curry and Green continue to back Kerr publicly as the franchise navigates recent ups and downs.

Recent Team Performance

The Warriors won their most recent championship in 2022, exited in the first round in 2023, and missed the postseason in 2023-24. Last year, the club finished 48-34 (.585) before falling in the Western Conference semifinals.

“I’m very comfortable going into the season with a year left,” Kerr said. “We’ve talked about this—there’s no reason for concern. Let’s see where everything stands at the end of the year.”
