Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga is changing his uniform number from 00 to 1, ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported.

The jersey switch comes immediately after the 22-year-old reached a two-year, $48.5 million agreement to stay in Golden State, agent Aaron Turner of Verus Basketball told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Tuesday. The contract contains a team option for the second season and is structured so it can be renegotiated next summer if Kuminga is moved during the 2025–26 campaign.

Short-Term Deal Ends Free-Agency Impasse

Kuminga accepted the two-year offer hours before Wednesday’s qualifying-offer deadline, choosing a shorter term over a three-year, $75 million proposal to retain greater control of his future. As part of the new pact he waived his built-in no-trade clause, and both sides expect trade discussions to be revisited once he becomes eligible to be dealt in mid-January, according to Charania.

Earlier Contract Proposals

Slater and Charania previously reported three separate offers the Warriors used in attempts to resolve the summer stalemate:

  • Three years, $75.2 million with a team option in Year 3 (guaranteed $48.3 million in the first two seasons)
  • Two years, $45 million with a team option in Year 2
  • Three years, $54 million with no options

Production and Role

The No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 draft averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 24.3 minutes across 47 games (10 starts) last season. The 6-foot-8 wing will enter his fifth NBA season this fall.

Subsequent Roster Moves

Kuminga’s signing cleared the way for Golden State to finalize contracts with free agents De’Anthony Melton, Al Horford, Gary Payton II and Seth Curry. Melton, who tore his left ACL on Nov. 12 after signing a one-year, $12.8 million deal last offseason, is expected to miss the first week of the upcoming campaign. Horford, embarking on his 19th NBA season, averaged 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds in 60 appearances for Boston last year.

Golden State opens the 2025–26 season on Oct. 21 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
