San Diego, Calif. — Golden State Warriors restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga did not attend a player-run minicamp organized by teammate Jimmy Butler this week, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday on “NBA Today.” Charania said every returning Warrior except Kuminga took part in the workouts.
The 22-year-old forward remains without a contract after his four-year, $24.85 million rookie deal ended last season, and he risks injury by joining unofficial activities. His absence comes while negotiations with Golden State have stalled.
Three Contract Proposals Rejected
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Charania, the Warriors recently offered Kuminga three different extensions:
- A three-year, $75.2 million package with a team option in Year 3, guaranteeing $48.3 million over the first two seasons.
- A two-year, $45 million deal featuring a team option in Year 2.
- A three-year, $54 million contract with no options.
Kuminga turned down each proposal. Talks have reportedly stalled over his request to convert team options into player options, something Golden State has resisted.
Qualifying Offer Remains on the Table
The Warriors have extended a qualifying offer that would allow Kuminga to enter unrestricted free agency next summer and include a no-trade clause. Signing it, however, would cost him more than $40 million in guaranteed salary over the next two seasons. The forward has until Oct. 1 to accept, though the deadline can be moved if both sides agree.
Production Last Season
The No. 7 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 24.3 minutes across 47 games (10 starts) for Golden State last year.
