Jonathan Kuminga Returns to Warriors on Two-Year, $46.8 Million Deal

Golden State forward Jonathan Kuminga ended a months-long contract impasse by signing a two-year, $46.8 million agreement that includes a team option for the 2026-27 season, the club confirmed Monday.

The new contract required Kuminga to waive his no-trade clause and gives the Warriors—or any team that might acquire him before 2026—control over the second year of the deal.

Speaking to reporters after practice, the 22-year-old rejected the idea that the short-term agreement is strictly a personal gamble. “Betting on myself is helping us win the championship,” Kuminga said. “That’s our goal, and that’s how we all look at it.”

Kuminga will switch from No. 00 to No. 1 when the Warriors open the 2025-26 season on Oct. 21 against the Los Angeles Lakers. ESPN’s Marc Spears reported on NBA Today that the forward appeared “at peace,” crediting teammates Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler and Buddy Hield for their support.

Rejected Offers Before Settlement

League sources told ESPN last month that Golden State had proposed three separate packages before the final agreement:

  • Three years, $75.2 million with a team option in Year 3
  • Two years, $45 million with a team option in Year 2
  • Three years, $54 million fully guaranteed

Kuminga declined each offer before accepting the current deal.

Entering Fifth NBA Season

The No. 7 pick in the 2021 draft averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 24.3 minutes over 47 games (10 starts) last season. Golden State finished 48-34 and fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals.

The fifth-year wing said he hopes to remain with the franchise long term, adding, “That’s everybody’s goal, to be somewhere long.”
