A one-of-a-kind trading card signed by Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant sold for $12.932 million on Saturday night, setting a new benchmark for the most expensive sports card ever sold.

The 2007-08 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection Dual Logoman Autographs Jordan & Bryant card—numbered 1-of-1—surpassed the previous record of $12.6 million paid for a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card in August 2022.

Heritage Auctions handled the private sale, keeping the buyer’s identity confidential. According to Chris Ivy, Heritage’s director of sports auctions, it is the only dual Logoman card featuring both NBA legends. “Another one can’t be created,” Ivy said, calling the item a “holy grail” for modern basketball collectors.

The card’s value was bolstered by a gold-variant Jordan jersey patch sourced from the 1996-97 season, when the NBA celebrated its 50th anniversary. Despite receiving a grade of 6 from Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), rarity outweighed condition because the card is unique. “Grades matter for standard-issue cards, but this is a 1-of-1,” Ivy noted.

The $12.932 million price tag makes the piece the second-costliest sports collectible overall, trailing only Babe Ruth’s 1932 World Series “called shot” jersey, which brought $24.12 million.

The Exquisite Legacy

Upper Deck’s Exquisite Collection debuted with a $500 five-card pack during the 2003-04 season. That set produced a LeBron James rookie card that later sold for $5.2 million, a record-holder among basketball cards until the Jordan-Bryant sale.

Ongoing Demand for Jordan and Bryant Items

Jordan memorabilia remains highly sought after. A preseason, signed Chicago Bulls jersey from his 1984-85 rookie year sold for $4.215 million at Sotheby’s in March. In June, Pharrell Williams’s auction house Joopiter moved a 1986-87 Fleer Jordan autographed rookie card for $2.5 million, far eclipsing the previous high of $205,000 set in March 2024. A Bulls uniform worn by Jordan for 17 games during the 1992-93 season realized $2.623 million at Heritage Auctions in May.

Interest in Bryant collectibles is also strong. Collector Matt Allen, known as “Shyne” on social media, recently disclosed spending $4 million on Bryant cards. The record-setting sale occurred the day Bryant would have turned 47.
