Chicago, IL — The Chicago Bulls offered restricted free agent guard Josh Giddey a four-year, $80 million contract when free agency opened on June 30, according to league sources cited by NBA reporter Jake Fischer.
The 6-foot-8 playmaker rejected the proposal, holding firm on a target of roughly $30 million per season — a five-year, $150 million figure comparable to the deal Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs secured earlier this offseason. Talks between Giddey’s representatives and the Bulls reportedly remain $8 million to $10 million apart in average annual value.
Warriors Back Away From Sign-and-Trade Scenario
Golden State had been linked to a potential dual sign-and-trade that would have sent Giddey to the Warriors and forward Jonathan Kuminga to Chicago. Team sources from both organizations now indicate the Warriors are no longer pursuing that option, in part because a double sign-and-trade would trigger a hard cap and limit the franchise’s financial flexibility.
Productive Year Positions Giddey for Payday
Giddey, who turns 23 in October, averaged 14.6 points, a career-high 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals across 70 games (69 starts) last season. He shot 46.5% from the field and a personal-best 37.8% from three-point range, finishing 10th in the NBA with 503 assists.
Chicago acquired the Australian guard from the Oklahoma City Thunder in the June trade that sent defensive specialist Alex Caruso to OKC. Giddey is entering the final season of the four-year, $27.21 million rookie contract he signed in August 2021; he earned $8.35 million in 2024-25 after the Bulls exercised his club option.
With the market for restricted free agents muted by new collective bargaining agreement penalties for teams exceeding the first and second tax aprons, Chicago has so far held its offer in the mid-$20 million range. Negotiations are expected to continue as both sides seek common ground before training camp.
