The Chicago Bulls have had no substantive discussions with swingman Dalen Terry about a rookie-scale extension, according to a report by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Terry, 23, is entering the final year of the four-year, $15.4 million deal he signed after being selected 18th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft. Under league rules, the 6-foot-7 guard/forward remains eligible to sign an extension until Oct. 20. If no agreement is reached, he could finish the 2025-26 season and then reach restricted free agency in 2026, provided the Bulls issue a qualifying offer—a step that appears uncertain given his first three seasons in Chicago.
Seeking a Steady Role
Terry has struggled to secure a consistent spot in the rotation but logged career highs last season with 73 appearances, 13.5 minutes and 4.5 points per game. He also averaged 1.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
During the offseason the Arizona product switched his jersey number from 25 to 7, saying he wanted to focus on being himself rather than meeting outside expectations. He cited former Bulls guard Alex Caruso as a model for contributing through defense and “connector” plays rather than high scoring totals.
“To succeed, I have to do what helps the team,” Terry said, adding that he plans to anchor his value on the defensive end.
Prove-It Year Ahead
The upcoming campaign is viewed as pivotal for Terry’s future with the franchise. Chicago opens the 2025-26 season at home against the Detroit Pistons on Oct. 22.
