New Orleans forward Zion Williamson missed Monday night’s 122-90 home loss to Boston because of a left foot bone contusion and practiced only in a limited capacity on Tuesday. The 25-year-old is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s matchup in Denver.
“Right now we’re in a day-to-day thing,” Williamson told NOLA.com. “Nothing major, nothing that is going to keep me out for a long time.”
The injury occurred Friday against San Antonio when Williamson landed on Victor Wembanyama’s foot during a put-back dunk. He said the pain intensified one to two days later, prompting medical evaluation and the decision to sit.
Green Frustrated as Losses Mount
The Pelicans’ 0-3 start has already raised questions about head coach Willie Green’s job security. After Monday’s blowout, Green lamented a lack of resilience. “I’m disappointed in how we approached the game,” he said. “It’s one thing to not win a game. It’s a whole other thing to get kind of punked on your home floor.”
Rookie’s First Start, Veteran’s First Minutes
With Williamson unavailable, No. 7 overall pick Jeremiah Fears made his first NBA start but struggled, shooting 1-for-11 and finishing with two points, two assists and a steal in 26 minutes.
Recently signed center DeAndre Jordan, 37, debuted for New Orleans and scored on a dunk—while drawing a foul—14 seconds after checking in. He closed the night with seven points and five rebounds in 11 minutes.
