New York forward Guerschon Yabusele acknowledged Saturday that his restricted playing time with the Knicks has been hard to accept, calling the situation “very difficult” in an interview with French outlets AFP and Basket USA.

The 29-year-old big man signed a two-year, $11.25 million contract with New York in July but has averaged only 9.8 minutes across 24 games in 2025-26. His production has fallen to 3.0 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest while shooting .400 from the field and .295 from three-point range. More than half of his attempts have come from beyond the arc.

Last season with Philadelphia, Yabusele posted 11.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 27.1 minutes over 70 appearances, shooting .501/.380/.725.

“I’m a competitor first,” he said ahead of the NBA Cup semifinal against Orlando. “It’s not a situation I thought I would be in coming here.”

The France native, who turns 30 on Wednesday, spent several seasons in Europe after two years with Boston early in his career. Despite the reduced role, he said he is focused on staying ready and praised the Knicks’ locker room for its support.

“I try to be ready whenever my name is called,” Yabusele noted. “I try to control my impact on the court, no matter how much time I get.”
