Malik Monk Floated as Potential Scoring Upgrade for Dallas

Bleacher Report columnist Dan Favale has proposed Sacramento Kings guard Malik Monk as a possible trade target for the Dallas Mavericks, suggesting the move could address Dallas’ early offensive struggles.
The Mavericks have opened the season 2-7 and rank last in both points per game and offensive rating. Favale argued that the club needs additional firepower around Anthony Davis (when healthy), rookie Cooper Flagg and the rest of the roster, positioning Monk as an “instant-offense” solution.
Favale noted that the 27-year-old guard excels at attacking the rim, operates well in tight spaces and has a proven track record of finding teammates off the dribble. He described Monk as both a secondary ballhandler and a reliable outlet when the rookie reaches the paint.
In Favale’s scenario, Monk could open in the starting lineup and later shift to a sixth-man role once Kyrie Irving returns from injury—though the writer added that Monk’s 55-plus percent accuracy on catch-and-shoot three-pointers also fits three-guard lineups.
As a framework, Favale suggested Sacramento might seek a combo forward and backup center, floating Daniel Gafford or Naji Marshall, along with additional salary filler, as potential pieces Dallas could send to the Kings.
This idea remains strictly theoretical; no reports indicate that either front office has discussed a deal.
Monk is averaging 16.5 points while shooting 53.8 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. He is earning $18.8 million this season and is widely regarded as one of the league’s most consistent bench scorers.
