MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 16, 2025 — The Minnesota Timberwolves have officially re-signed guard Tristen Newton to a two-way deal, according to the NBA.com transaction log released Tuesday.
The agreement finalizes a process that began on Aug. 1, when restricted free agent Newton accepted his two-way qualifying offer, as first reported by HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
Newton, selected 49th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, split his rookie season between Indiana and Minnesota, appearing in five games for the Pacers and three for the Timberwolves. Most of his playing time came with the G League’s Iowa Wolves, where the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 16.6 points, 6.6 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals across 20 contests.
The 23-year-old also suited up in five Summer League games this offseason, posting 9.2 points, 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals while hitting 47.6% of his three-point attempts.
Minnesota’s two-way slots are now filled by Newton, rookie forward Enrique Freeman and 2025 second-round pick Rocco Zikarsky. Second-year center Jesse Edwards currently occupies the fourth spot and is expected to be waived to accommodate the roster shuffle, especially after the additions of Zikarsky and first-round pick Joan Beringer.
