MINNEAPOLIS — Donte DiVincenzo buried a pair of clutch three-pointers in the final two minutes Friday night, sealing Minnesota’s win over Golden State and spoiling Stephen Curry’s return from injury.
The guard, who shot poorly for most of the game, tied the score with 1:48 remaining and struck again 80 seconds later to put the result out of reach. Afterward DiVincenzo credited his lone season with Curry and Klay Thompson in 2022-23 for giving him the mentality to take late shots without hesitation.
“I didn’t shoot the ball well at all tonight, but I could care less,” DiVincenzo said. “Playing with 30 over there changed my mindset on my misses and my approach. I want the big shot at the end.”
DiVincenzo signed a one-year deal with Golden State in the summer of 2022 following a turbulent stretch that saw him lose his starting job in Milwaukee—where he helped win the 2021 championship—and get traded to Sacramento. Time alongside the Splash Brothers, he said, reshaped his practice habits and confidence.
Gobert One Flagrant Away From Suspension
Center Rudy Gobert has accumulated enough flagrant-foul points that any additional flagrant this season will trigger an automatic one-game suspension, the Star-Tribune reported. The veteran picked up flagrant fouls in consecutive games last week, leaving him one point shy of an immediate ban and two points from a two-game suspension.
Gobert contended that Monday’s flagrant—assessed after he made significant contact with Phoenix center Mark Williams’ ribs while Williams was airborne—was merely a “very physical” play intended to halt momentum rather than injure.
Finch Calls Out Shannon’s Defensive Readiness
Head coach Chris Finch said second-year guard Terrence Shannon Jr.’s inconsistent minutes stem from lapses at the defensive end. Finch pointed to poor screen navigation and overreliance on closing speed, habits that become costly against NBA-level athletes and well-executed offenses.
Edwards, Hyland Questionable; Conley Out
Anthony Edwards, sidelined Friday with soreness in his right foot, is listed as questionable for Sunday’s home matchup with Sacramento. Bones Hyland, who exited Friday’s game with a right knee contusion, carries the same designation. Veteran guard Mike Conley has been ruled out because of a right Achilles issue.
